Your best photos of the week, February 01, 2019
Each week, our editors choose stunning photos submitted by members of Your Shot, National Geographic's photo community.
A photo editor’s voice shines in their edits just like a photographer’s voice shines in their photographs. This voice can come through taste in style, personality, or even the moments that spoke to them in that particular edit. I have the unique opportunity with Your Shot to craft photo edits from the daily uploads both for this Photos of the Week series and as a Your Shot household series, Daily Dozen.
Sometimes I catch myself reviewing a final edit and I can see so much of myself from the past week in the edit. How I was feeling and the kind of experiences I had are all evident in my edit. Photography has the power to transcend into our deepest psyche and bring forward our innermost sensitivities. In the way that photographers can make images that convey their emotional journey, the same can happen for photo editors through the images that they select.
This week I found myself enjoying lighthearted images that brought a smile to my face or had a calming quality in their spirit. These images reflect my voice as a photo editor for this particular week. I want to keep evolving my eye and gain confidence in the nuances of photo editing. The best photo editors can craft a narrative in an eloquent fashion that reveals the heart of a story through their selections.
