Children of the Omo Valley

The Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia is one of the most ethnically diverse places in the world. Many of the people that call the region home were never subjected to European colonization and still practice centuries-old traditions—such as children of the Suri tribe, pictured here. Now, planned development projects, such as the the Gibe III Dam, threaten many of these communities' abilitiy to sustain their livelihoods.
