Auto Waste

This aerial photo of the Californian desert shows the physical consequences of the Volkswagen emissions scandal. In 2015, The EPA discovered the Volkswagen had intentionally programmed cars to pass US emissions requirements—but in reality, the cars were emitting 40 times the permissible amounts of nitrogen oxides. Millions of cars around the world were recalled, and some of them were brought to this desert to be discarded. This photo was submitted to Your Shot, our photo community on Instagram.
