Your best photos of the week, September 21, 2018
Each week, our editors choose stunning photos submitted by members of Your Shot, National Geographic's photo community.
Close your eyes. Imagine the most spectacular view you can conjure. What do you see? Perhaps you see a white sand beach with a cotton candy sky. Maybe you see a mountain range's snow-kissed peaks or a bustling city with lights aglow at dusk. There's no doubt that those views can be breathtaking, but what about the sights we see in our everyday lives?
This week I purposely started the edit with a classically breathtaking aerial view of the Grand Prismatic Springs in the Yellowstone National Park. What’s not to love about this magical view? It’s one of nature’s greatest creations! But I wanted to dedicate the remainder of this week’s series to the views we see any time in our own communities.
There's beauty in the things we might overlook every day. It might be the matter of looking at your surroundings a little differently, noticing the little moments we pay no mind, or interpreting a small victory we all experience.
Photography helps me keep perspective about the world around me. It’s an exercise in slowing down and stopping to smell the flowers. Photography helps us share those moments with others. Don't forget to stop and soak it in.
